My 2011 528i with 24,000 miles is silky smooth and idles evenly at around 700 rpm--no fluctuating. I do notice when starting the car it can sort of shake a little for a few seconds then settle down. Others have noted this and BMW says it is normal. An idling 6 cylinder engine should be smooth as silk. Period.
